Data Practices

What we store

  • Professor account information (name, email — encrypted at rest)
  • Course metadata (code, name, term)
  • Student display names only — encrypted at rest
  • AI-generated grade results (score, feedback) — not raw submission text
  • Access audit logs (who accessed what records, and when)

What we do NOT store

  • Student ID numbers or Social Security Numbers
  • Student email addresses or contact information
  • Raw submission text after grading is complete
  • Student names in AI API requests — content is anonymized before grading

AI Processing

Submission content is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for evaluation. Student names and institutional identifiers are never included in API requests. Anthropic's API does not use inputs to train models. Professors should avoid including student-identifying information in submission text before pasting.

FERPA Alignment

This platform is designed to support institutions operating under FERPA (20 U.S.C. § 1232g). Institutions using this tool should designate it as a "school official" tool under a data processing agreement. Contact your institution's FERPA compliance officer before deploying for live student records.

Data Retention

Grade records are retained per institution configuration. Audit logs are retained for 365 days by default. Institutions may request data deletion at any time.
